Born in France and raised in Canada, Jean Genibrel has made the US his
home since 1964. The author began his racing career in 1968 with an
Austin Healy Sprite in local events. Later, Genibrel drove a Mini-Stock
for a local team and received his first SCCA license racing a Gordini.
Genibrel worked for several professional teams, notably Dan Gurney's All
American Racers in the Bobby Unser and Jerry Grant days, Dick Guldstrand
Enterprises, and many other SCCA, IMSA and Trans Am Teams. Jean built
and raced several record setting project cars and engines for various
teams and publications, ranging from Stock Cars, to karts and SCCA
sedans.
Jean Genibrel has five books to his credit and has collaborated on three
more as an editor for "Steve Smith Autosports Publications". Genibrel
began racing karts in 1982 at Ascot Park in Gardena, Caifornia, and he
has raced karts on most of the tracks in the southwest. Jean was
president of the San Fernando Valley Kart Club in the mid 80's.
Jean Genibrel is best known for his karting publications, The Beginner's
Complete Karting Guide, Racing the Yamaha KT100S, and 4-Cycle Karting
Technology, which he co-authored. Since 1982 Jean has been contributing
editor to National Kart News, Karttech, Circle Track, Short Track
Racing, Sport Compact Car, Popular Hot Rodding, Stock Car Racing, and
Bracket Racing USA. Genibrel was the tech editor of Rod Action & Street
Machines and most recently created, produced and edited Kart Racer
magazine. In May 1998, Jean was the first journalist awarded for a
karting story. Genibrel received the STP award at the 1998 Indy 500
banquet of the American Auto Racing Writers & Broadcasters Association.
The author/publisher is scheduled to produce a complete library of
karting books, software and videos. Some of the books will be translated
into Japanese and Spanish.
